Line markings - the shortest distance to safety

Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, visited Kromboom Road between the M5 (Kromboom Parkway) and Milner Road in Rondebosch to see how the road repair teams are progressing with the painting of road markings.
The current road markings have faded and need to be repainted to ensure proper visibility for road users.
Road markings must comply with the Road Traffic Act which serves as a guideline to promote safety to road users, pedestrians, as well as animals that cross the roads at certain areas or locations, especially in the agricultural areas. More importantly, to enhance efficient traffic control and regulation as it forms part of the Traffic Law.
Works will be implemented from the morning when traffic congestion has subsided in order not to interfere with the normal morning peak traffic.
‘I am relieved that the weather is clearing up, allowing our road repair teams to address the backlog that has been exacerbated by the recent rainfall, among other things. The rains not only impacted the condition of the roads but also played a role in the fading line markings. The team is painting the road markings and is also looking for sections that need touching up on this stretch of the road.

‘We do not anticipate road closures, however, we advise motorists to consider using alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience. Clear road markings will assist with visibility and safety, especially at night and during inclement weather. I’m asking residents to please be careful when moving around the work area and comply with the displayed signage,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.
